Object description :

"Antique Royal Vienna Cabinet Plate ,"esther",signed, C 1850."
This is a Royal Vienna porcelain cabinet plate likely from around 1850, featuring a finely hand painted portrait of Esther the biblical queen known for her grace and courage. The portrait is signed by the porcelain artist Wagner, whose works are highly sought after for their attention to detail and lifelike execution. The central image presents Esther standing against a serene landscape, with the sea and a soft, pastel-toned sky in the background. She is depicted in a flowing gray robe with a gold-embellished neckline, her long, wavy brown hair adorned with a red headband. The finely hand-painted portrait on this plate showcases the exceptional artistry of Royal Vienna, creating a true painting on porcelain with remarkable detail, depth, and lifelike expression. The plate cobalt blue border is decorated with raised gold scrollwork lattice patterns and floral motifs. The gold is applied in relief adding texture and depth. Jewel like enamel accents further enhance the luxurious design. The back of the plate features the blue beehive mark traditionally linked to Royal Vienna porcelain. Raised gold cobalt blue and hand painted figures are typical of mid-19th century European porcelain. This is a fine example of antique European porcelain appealing to collectors and connoisseurs. The Imperial and Royal Porcelain Manufactory of Vienna, commonly known as Royal Vienna, was founded in 1718 and became one of Europe’s most prestigious porcelain manufacturers. Known for its high-quality hand-painted designs, gilded decorations, and the famous beehive mark, the factory produced luxurious porcelain pieces for European aristocracy. It ceased operations in 1864, but its distinctive style continued to be imitated by later porcelain workshops.
