Working.
Parisian table clock in working order, with a rectangular base in light marble whose front is slightly advanced to make room for the clock case. It has a white dial, Louis XVI style hands, Roman numerals for the hours and Arabic numerals in fives for the minutes. This part is housed in a gilded marble pedestal, the base of which is decorated with a fretwork Greek fretwork evoking waves, a laurel wreath and, on the sides, books, an upturned vase with flowers and a bow; above, plant elements and a knot. At the top, a gilded bronze rooster and, holding the animal, a cupid (note the bow that connects him to the god of love Cupid) or a cherub in burnished bronze, thus creating a marked contrast. There are only a few examples similar to this one in European private collections, because it was a very popular model and the French workshops specializing in this type of piece created variants for the watchmakers who requested them. There is also another model without a rooster and with a reclining angel, very similar to this one, of which porcelain examples created in Meissen are also known. -
