"Guardian Angel Reliquary Frame Early 19th Century"
Wooden reliquary frame representing an altar decorated with colonnades surrounding the figure of the Guardian Angel (the Angel de la Guardia). The altar is made of wood and gold paper ornaments of great finesse. There are decorations of palmettes, medallions, crosses and flower pots in the taste of the very beginning of the 19th century. Some gilded metal ornaments have been added to the composition such as a medallion and a frieze. The figure of the Guardian Angel is represented as a winged angel in a tunic protecting a child dressed in blue with his hand. This is an image of piety inserted into the assembly of the Altar decoration. The frame is made of wood covered with protective glazing. The object is in very good condition and bears witness to very meticulous assembly and design work. It could be a work from the south of France linked to a place of Hispanic devotion.
