"13th Century - High France Or Flanders - Gilded Copper Reliquary "
Extraordinary gilded copper pyx reliquary from the 13th century, a goldsmith's work from northern France or Flanders. The object is composed of a round base with an onion-shaped node and two cylindrical connections above and below the node, the upper one of which joins a conical element that is inserted into the cup, embellished with a folded fringe motif. The cup has two uprights for the lid opening system (via a pin and a clasp). The conical and splayed lid ends with an onion-shaped node on which a cross stands out. Given the extraordinary age of the object, some elements have been consolidated (from the inside) with tin, which in some places is visible in some halos. Inside there is a relic of St. Agatha protected by a fabric. Probably small pieces missing or replaced, but the integrity and condition of the object (including the gilding) are easily appreciated in the photos. The cylindrical glass is (obviously) modern. ???? Dim. cm 12 x 12 x 39H
