"Louis XV Sauteuse Chest Of Drawers Stamped Fg For François Garnier"
Louis XV period chest of drawers stamped FG for François Garnier. Curved chest of drawers in violet wood veneer, opening with three drawers in two rows. How can we not notice this rich ornamentation of chiseled and gilded bronzes: the leafy falls continue in threads and end with lion's paw sabots decorated with floral decoration. The arched feet lighten the silhouette of the chest of drawers. Two brass rushes frame the lower drawer from above and below. The gilded bronze crossbow handles are decorated with ivy leaves and attached to a cartouche in the center. The two locks of the chest of drawers are inlaid into the drawers and have a typically rocaille decoration with its leafy twists and shells. The apron extends the curved cut of the piece of furniture and ends in volutes of chiseled leaves. The molded top in a corbin beak is in Rouge de France marble.

Father of the famous cabinetmaker Pierre Garnier, François Garnier worked on rue du Faubourg-Saint Antoine where he was a sworn member of the corporation of cabinetmakers from 1742 to 1744. Since the use of the stamp was not obligatory at the beginning of his career, few works could be attributed to him with certainty. However, the signed furniture that we find like this one demonstrate great attention to detail and real talent. He died in Paris in 1774 on rue des Moineaux.
