Victor Gilbert loves to paint the freshness and joy of childhood in Paris or in the provinces. His colors are peaceful, restful with happy harmonies. During this period, finally, the status of the child evolves. Arranged marriage gradually gives way to marriage for love, which will sanctify the newborn. Victor Gilbert paints this period of the child-king remarkably. Although he continued to exhibit these street scenes at the beginning of the 20th century, it is considered that these most beautiful subjects are between 1875 and 1890.
