"Dandy Tailcoat In Casimir Chimney Sweep Background - France Louis-philippe Period Circa 1830"
Circa 1830 France Dandy's tailcoat from the Romantic period in woven cotton wool cloth in twill and lustrous in the color Chimney Sweep, fabric called Casimir in the fashion plates of this period. Fitted daytime dress with a loose cut hugging the bust, long elbow sleeves with small mittens and a fairly short and slit tail. Complete with its eight buttons covered in brown satin (one button damaged). Note that there are no buttonholes, and that this tailcoat was therefore worn open on the male bust which had to be corseted! Fully lined with chintzed cotton twill, white on the bust (light soiling) and chimney sweep for the lining of the tail. No holes or major defects. Very good structural condition. Rare piece of clothing. Note that the waistcoat and breeches visible in the photos are the subject of a separate sale. Dimensions: Equivalent size 48-50 Men France. Front height 49 cm, back height 84 cm, shoulders 40 cm, chest 95 cm, waist 80 cm, sleeves 61 cm. Piece presented at the Carnet de Bal exhibition at the Musée de Bourgoin-Jallieu in 2024.
