"Pair Of Louis XVI Candlesticks In Gilt Bronze, Asparagus Model, 19th Century"
Very pretty model with a gadrooned bulb socket, with a fluted, tapered and rudenté shaft decorated with asparagus, with bundles held by an alternation of ribbons and foliage, which is similar to that ordered for the royal residence of Compiègne around 1784 under the charge of Marc-Antoine Thierry de Ville d'Avray, then intendant of the Garde-Meuble de la Couronne. This model will be a real success at the end of the 18th century; an exceptional pair will notably be part of the collection of Hubert de Givenchy, recently dispersed by Christie's. We cautiously announce a dating of the 19th century for this pretty, very decorative pair. Height 240 mm Diameter 120 mm Weight 1478 gr
