"Lion Of Fo"
Large lion of Fô in green enameled terracotta with blue highlights. The mythical animal representing the wisdom of the Buddha holds the pearl of eternity under its front paw. Its wide open mouth reveals its fangs, its eyes are flush with its head, which has sometimes favored its assimilation to a Pekingese dog. The tail is raised vertically, unfurling an abundant plume. This is a very large subject for a work of enameled terracotta, supposed to protect the threshold of a large aristocratic house from negative influences, from the evil eye. This classic representation is usually accompanied by its female counterpart playing with her cub. But, as it is, in its size and the beauty of its covering, our lion is more than enough in itself.
