"The Cat Breastfeeding Her Kittens. Sculpted On Carrara Marble"
Magnificent group sculpted in direct carving on a block of white Carrara marble, representing a Cat nursing her young. All cat lovers, of which I am one, will recognize the haughty serenity of a mother, offering her flank to her babies, eager for breast milk. Attentive, she quietly scans around her, as a wise protector. How can one not be moved and smile in front of the little one, already sated, or too dreamy, asleep on his mother's back. He is a fine observer of the feline race who wields the chisel. If the group is anonymous, we can however compare it to the work of Louis Riché (1877-1949), a prolific animal sculptor. Indeed, among the many animals he represented, he made felines in groups in various materials, ceramic, bronze and sculpture in direct carving. We will observe the proximity of the biscuit representing a cat and her kittens that he made for the Sèvres factory. We can also imagine the sumptuous bronze that our group would have made. The proportions and size are perfectly adapted. A few small spots to clean, but excellent condition, without accident or sticking.
