Made in central Italy in the 17th century.
The painting, made in the early 17th century, was part of a series of paintings after the famous Portrait Gallery of Paolo Giovio (1483-1552), composed of portraits of illustrious men and women from antiquity to the 16th century, commissioned for the first time by the humanist for his home on Lake Como.
The most famous copy of this collection of portraits is the one made by the painter Cristofano dell'altissimo (1525-1605) in the mid-16th century by order of Cosimo I de'Medici and still preserved today in the corridor of the Uffizi.
