Pair Of Mr 50 Brno Armchairs By Ludwig Mies Van Der Rohe

Pair of cantilever armchairs in chromed steel, original green fabric upholstery on the seat, backrest and armrests. Model created by Mies Van Der Rohe and Lilly Reich circa1930 for the Tugenhat villa in Brno, then published by Knoll from 1958. These two armchairs date from the 1980s and bear the Knoll brand on the canvas under the seat.
Fairly good condition: wear to the fabric on the armrests, small scratches on the chrome.
Ludwig Mies Van Der Rohe (1886-1969) was an American architect and designer of German origin, first an architect for Bruno Paul and Peter Behrens around 1910, he founded his own firm and directed the Bauhaus school in 1930-33. The rise to power of the National Socialist Party forced him to leave Germany and emigrate to the United States where he meets success and was one of the first architects who  used glass and steel for the construction of  monumental buildings.
