"Fez Belt In Brocade Tapestry Lined With Rouennerie - Hizam Morocco Late 18th Century "
Late 18th early 19th century Morocco Rare example of a very early Fez Hizam Wedding belt! From a famous French collection that will be passed on to the buyer and which was published in the 1970s. Woven on a hand loom, it has four Hispano-Moorish decorations including two brocades with gold and silver thread. At the ends, an eight-pointed star "seal of Solomon" and a "Khamsa" hand, commonly the hand of Fatima, intended to remove the evil eye! It is lined with a Siamese woven Indigo with small squares from the end of the 18th century, like the oldest belts listed. Contrary to what is usually said, the oldest belts are not half-belts because they were much narrower than at the beginning of the 20th century. Some threads pulled in the brocade, fringes missing at one end, otherwise very good structural condition. Dimensions: 16 cm wide by 258 cm long. This belt comes from a set of 11 pieces that decorated a castle in the South West of France in the Bordeaux region. The Collectionneur was published in decoration magazines in the 1970s, associated with the French 18th century. He published a major work that is still a reference today and which will be communicated to the buyer. The other belts will be put up for sale one by one but it is possible to acquire the entire collection on request.
