The work is done in oil on cardboard, it is offered in a lovely carved gilded frame with brown patina which measures 34.5 cm by 27 cm and 29 cm by 22 cm for the painting alone.
In its good original condition, it is signed lower right.
Difficult to take a picture because of the glazing technique used by the painter, the work is much more beautiful in reality.
Jules Monge is the student of Alexandre Cabanel, Edouard Detaille and Saintpierre in Marseille. He exhibited at the Salon des artistes français from 1881 to 1933 and obtained many successes there, Honorable Mention in 1881 with "Portrait of Mr. Boudouresque of the Opera", 3rd Class Medal and Bashkirtseff Prize in 1911 with "Les Tanagras" and Gold Medal in 1923 "L'Archéologue". He also exhibited in provincial cities (Marseille, Versailles). He produced numerous portraits and military scenes. During the interwar period he visited Republican China and painted scenes of daily life.
