"Silver Chalice And Patena, France Circa 1850"
Tulip-shaped silver chalice, richly decorated in repoussé, chased and guilloché. The chalice rests on a circular base profiled in an ogee, decorated with rosettes alternating with cartouches representing acanthus leaves. A Jerusalem Cross completes this ornamentation. The domed terrace is highlighted with a frieze of heart stripes and decorated with rolled leathers, three oval medallions representing Christ, Saint Peter and Saint James, as well as Eucharistic symbols: vine, bunch of wheat and rush. The shaft is made up of rings and collars decorated with friezes of rosaries and ropes. It is decorated with an ovoid knot decorated with Eucharistic symbols and palm leaves. The false cup has three medallions representing the three theological virtues and takes up the floral motifs decorating the chalice terrace. The inside of the cup is gilded. 950/1000 silver, Minerva hallmarks This chalice was made by the Parisian goldsmith Hippolyte Puche, around 1850. Several of his works are preserved in the Charente department, including an exceptional monstrance, offered by the Countess of Marigny, sister of the famous writer Chateaubriand, to the parish of Saint-Malo. A paten in silver and gilded silver, decorated with a Pascal Lamb, accompanies this chalice. Minerva hallmark 950/1000, early 20th century, silversmith Passani. It adapts perfectly to the cup of the chalice. Diameter: 14.7 cm Weight: 120 gr This chalice is in excellent condition, close to new. It has not undergone any restoration, polishing or shock. The cup has retained its original gilding in very good condition. Patena: very good condition / traces of use
