"The Book Of Dance By Serge Lifar. 1954"
The Book of Dance, published in 1954 by the JMF, is one of the many works written by Serge Lifar to promote dance. Born in kyiv in 1905, at the time of the Russian Empire, he received instruction from Nijinsky's sister. He fled the Bolshevik revolution to France, where the Russian community was large. Diaguilev, captivated by his talent and beauty, integrated him into his famous troupe. His death forced him to find new engagements, and he entered the Paris Opera in 1929, and appointed ballet master the following year, he became a prominent figure in Parisian high society. He created numerous choreographies and notably reprised the prelude to the afternoon of a Faun. He continued his career very late, becoming a teacher and a reformer of his art. His fame is and will remain worldwide. After a stint in Monte Carlo, he retired to Switzerland where he died in 1986. This popular work is full of magnificent photos, notably of Thérèse Le Prat, and especially of Boris Lipnitzki, as well as drawings by Picasso, Maillol, Cocteau, and many others. It is number 262 out of 3000, it is name cut, complete with its protective transparency, and in very poor condition (only one sheet of a photo album has come off). It bears a dedication from the author and a stamp from ex lilibris. 226 pages
