Heinrich Aldegrever was born around 1502 in Paderborn, Germany, and died in Soest around 1559. A talented engraver and also a painter, he was part of the group known as the "Little Masters" (Kleinmeister), renowned for their exceptional ability to create highly detailed miniature engravings. His early engraved works were greatly influenced by Albrecht Dürer. Even his monogram, featuring the letters "AG," may be a tribute to the master of Nuremberg, whose monogram bore the letters "AD."
