Printed canvas headband with revolutionary motifs, perhaps Normandy? Late 18th century. This piece of valance, printed in red and blue on linen canvas, includes a series of medallions: a woman carrying a flag with the word Liberty, and lying at her feet a symbol of the abundance of agriculture, wheat, wine, fruits, etc. Another medallion represents a woman striking down a lion symbolizing tyranny with a sword. The whole is punctuated by a decoration of flowers, blue, white, red cockades. In good condition, slightly sunned, but without restoration. The subject of the French Revolution is rare in textiles.
