Console table with a rectangular top with smooth wooden edges, featuring a belt decorated with gilded bronzes and a band of black architectural elements. At the front, it rests on two gilded feet with feline heads (leopard or panther), with plant decoration and lion claws; at the back, a rectangular mirror. The base takes up the motif of the upper part and is also decorated with gilded appliques. Although the model is influenced by the French Empire console tables common at the time, details such as the wooden top, the dark lines, the felines on the front, etc., are more reminiscent of English examples from the Regency period, so named because it was during the time when the future George IV was Prince Regent (1811-1820). Compare the feline paws with the illustrations of Charles Heathcote Tatham (1772-1842) and Thomas Hope (1769-1831), as well as with the furniture designs of George Smith (1756-1826). -
