Splendid Italian painting from the first half of the 17th century. Oil on panel artwork of remarkable pictorial quality depicting Christ carrying the cross. The subject found particular success in the sixteenth century with Titian and other great masters who attempted this representation of the Via Crucis. In the foreground we find Jesus who advances towards Mount Calvary carrying the cross on his shoulder. The dramatic expression of the face furrowed by tears expresses all the humiliation inflicted by the executioners and the human pain for an inevitable fate. Worthy of note is the sculptural plasticity of the figures and the executive technique in the creation of the clothes, with bright, almost metallic colors. 20th century frame in carved and gilded wood, with some signs of aging. Painting already restored with new parquetry on the back, overall in good condition. Internal size H 90 x W 76 cm.
