Rodolphe Caillaux (1904-1989) Our oil on canvas depicts the lively port of Saint Jean de Luz at the foot of the house of the Infanta frame size 50x61 cm frame size 70x82 cm Expressionist painter of landscapes, portraits and genre scenes. Born on November 11, 1904 in Paris, Rodolphe Caillaux died in December 1989. He is particularly recognized for his paintings of landscapes, bullfighters and his numerous representations of the port of Saint-Jean-de-Luz. Working in oil or thick gouache, his style is distinguished by great intensity, marked density and expressive force. His robust compositions, while remaining figurative, reflect a resolutely expressionist sensibility. Biographical references: 1928: Debuts at the Salon des Artistes Indépendants in Paris, then exhibits regularly at the Salon d'Automne, of which he becomes a member in 1957 and vice-president of the Salon des Indépendants. 1940: After his demobilization, he settles in Pau until 1946, painting numerous views of Béarn.
