"Bronze Medallion Signed Paul Thomas"
Paul THOMAS (19th-20th century), French sculptor specializing in animal art. Very pretty signed bronze medallion. Bronze in the round with brown and gold patina. Naturalist scene where a bird is frozen in flight, landing on a branch towards a dragonfly. The bird is represented with great finesse in its plumage and dynamic attitude. The dragonfly, precisely detailed, illustrates the artist's talent for small creatures. Probably from the end of the 19th century or the beginning of the 20th century, a period when Art Nouveau and naturalism were in vogue. Part of the tradition of the French animal school, alongside sculptors such as Jules Moigniez or Antoine-Louis Barye.
