Vintage albumen print signed, dry stamp of the author (circa 1889) - Photo format 29 x 40 cm - Under mat 40x50cm This is a group portrait with, in the center, the photographer Terpereau, founder of documentary photography in Gironde, at the foot of a pillar of the Eiffel Tower and to his left, holding him by the shoulder, possibly the mayor of Bordeaux (Mr. Baysselance) with whom Terpereau was very close, both founding members of the Club Alpins Français, South-West section. This photograph was probably taken during the 1889 Universal Exhibition where Terpereau received, on this occasion, a gold medal for his work on works of Art. Alphonse Terpereau (1839-1897) is a French photographer. Based in Bordeaux, he was one of the first professional photographers in the service of the development of the Gironde region, in connection with the activity of engineers between 1860 and 1890 who sought to use photography not only as an art but also as a means of informing. For the quality of his work, Alphonse Terpereau received numerous awards, including a gold medal at the Universal Exhibition in Paris in 1889. Beautiful large-format albumen print.
