"Pair Of Empire Mahogany Armchairs, Swan Model, Attributed To Bellangé"
Pair of armchairs in solid mahogany and mahogany veneer. The straight armrests are decorated with scrolls and the armrest consoles are decorated with swan necks whose wings support the recessed cuffs. The front legs in sheath rest on swan feet, perched on balls, the front legs in sabre. They are covered with a silk with golden yellow lignje by Lelièvre. Parisian work from the Empire period, our seats are not stamped. However, the work is reminiscent of that of Bellangé, who had made a specialty of these swan neck armrests, recessed on the wings. This attribution is very likely, although it could also be a work of Marcion. Pierre Antoine Bellangé, carpenter in seats and cabinetmaker, master in 1788 is the patriarch of a line of cabinetmakers who was supplier of the Royal and Imperial furniture repository throughout the 19th century, under the First Empire, the Restoration, the July Monarchy and the Second Empire. Beautiful amateur model, of superior quality; our seat is a neat model and not the Empire armchair "that we see in others". the two seats are in very good condition, old varnish cleaned and repolished by our cabinetmaker. Lelièvre silk upholstery redone. Width: 58cm Height: 91.5cm Depth: 50cm Seat height: 41cm
