Persian Gashgai rug from Iran, measuring 102 cm wide by 150 cm long. Hand-knotted wool around 1970.
The interest of this piece lies in the particularity of the shape of the niche (mihrab). Indeed, the niche is most original, treated like a large arrow covered with stylized and colorful flowers, including tulips.
Its general decoration has an undeniable Turkish influence, visible in the design and the elements that make up this rug.
The high-quality wool used and the dense and tightly knotted also evoke this influence.
Our model in yellow, curry, saffron, purple, olive green is covered with flowers and combines green, straw yellow, and orange. Model in very good condition.
The design of a beautiful complexity, reveals many tribal motifs and other stylized plants that are always found on these carpets.
These carpets are knotted in the region of Shiraz located near the ancient Persepolis which gave its name to Persia, today, Iran.
Shiraz is located in the province of Fars, where the Gashghai tribes reside and produce carpets under the two names, Shiraz or Ghashghai. Dimensions: Width: 102 cm (40") x Length: 150 cm (59")
