In those years the painting professor was Salvatore Fergola, while in the drawing Morghen.
That of the Real Educandato of piazzetta Miracoli is a story of progress and innovation in the school system that, in the 19th century, finally timidly touched the female sex. In fact, women were taught history, geography, drawing, painting, singing and dancing. There were even scholarships to access schools at state expense for the most deserving and for other social classes with advantages. Vaccination was even mandatory for female students, under penalty of non-admission to schools. With all the cultural limitations of the past century, it was a truly avant-garde school for its time. In the Rione Miracoli there had already been a school for women since the 17th century, but it was an institution reserved for the nobility: the fees to be paid were in fact very high and the studies were closer to monastic ones than to a real school of modern conception. After all, that of Santa Maria dei Miracoli was a monastery. If we look at the list of teachers from 1852, for example, we understand that the teachers of the Real Educandato dei Miracoli were truly first-rate. Just look at Salvatore Fergola (one of the most famous painters of the time) as a teacher of landscape painting, or Francesco Morghen (the son of the Florentine Raffaele, the most famous engraver in Italy) as a drawing teacher. Inside the school there were also three doctors trained at the Ospedale degli Incurabili, which at the time was the city's highest excellence. There were also calligraphy classes and three languages were learned: in addition to Italian grammar and literature, there were also compulsory classes in French grammar, history and literature and English grammar, history and literature.
