Object description :

"Sculpture – Carved Marble Capital – Simplified Corinthian Order – Corinthian Capital "
Late 18th - early 19th century France or Italy This white marble capital, dating from the late 18th century or early 19th century, is a fine example of an architectural element inspired by Antiquity, both sober and elegant. It uses the codes of the Corinthian capital, but in a simplified, almost “archaic” version, which combines elegance and sobriety: • The acanthus leaves, which form the base of the decoration, are stylized, with long, stretched ribs and few secondary cutouts, giving the whole lightness and readability. • The upper part, the abacus, remains smooth and sober, with a slight recessed listel, giving it a refined and balanced appearance. • The lateral volutes, discreet, barely sketched, without excess decoration, accentuate the refined simplicity of the whole. The marble has a beautiful old patina, with ivory tones softened by time, with some natural signs of use. Note: a small chip on one corner of the sheet, without weakening. Probably intended to adorn an element of interior architecture (niche, pilaster, monumental furniture), this capital can today be diverted into a base for a statue or bust, or even as a stand-alone decorative object. Condition: Very good general condition, old patina, a chip on one corner, slight signs of use. Dimensions: Height: 14.2 cm Width (abacus): 15 x 15 cm Delivery: ALL DELIVERIES ARE MADE BY DHL EXPRESS ONLY!
