"Alfred Charles Weber: The Cardinal And His Dog "
Alfred Charles Weber (1862-1922), a student of Cormon and Soyer, specialized in the representation, both in oil and watercolor, of cardinals often caught in the act of having fun or enjoying themselves. The most accomplished works place them in sumptuous interiors. His technique is breathtaking, almost photographic. Here our friend the prelate is having fun making a friendly dog look good. The drawing is dedicated to little Jean, who could well be the dog himself, by his master. The paper is a little yellowed but the watercolor is very fresh.
