Milan Cathedral (Italian: duomo di Milano), officially the Metropolitan Cathedral of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary (cattedrale metropolitana della Natività della Beata Vergine Maria), often abbreviated to "duomo", is a cathedral located in the Piazza del Duomo in Milan, Italy. Dedicated to the Nativity of Mary (Santa Maria Nascente), it is the seat of the Archbishopric of Milan. Construction of the cathedral began in 1386, and it took five and a half centuries to complete in 1932. It is the third largest church in the world after St. Peter's Basilica and the Cathedral of Our Lady of the See in Seville.
