These kinds of objects are becoming rare: a curious display of devotion. The figures are made of wax, with the inside of the subjects seemingly mounted on wooden or cork rods (difficult to say without taking everything apart), sometimes with a filling of plant fibres, and each figure is dressed. This diorama represents Christ coming down from the cross. The figures appear to be from the late 17th and certainly 18th centuries and are reminiscent of the work of Gaetano Zumbo or Caterina de Julianis or the Guillot brothers' workshop in Nancy.
Condition: Needs restoration. Fabrics and waxes damaged. One side glass broken. One foot missing.
