Folding kit with three folding flaps and three gusseted compartments under each flap.
The exterior is in burgundy shagreen decorated with gold threads, the interior lined with red velvet.
The case is closed by an adjustable chrome-plated metal fastener.
The "giberne" case by Charrière was intended for army surgeons.
It contains 21 instruments in steel or chrome-plated metal, the handles plated with tortoiseshell, in addition to curved needles, pins, a piece of very fine white chamois and an envelope in embossed paper containing a "Court-plaister": silk covered with a fish bladder paste to make it sticky used as a dressing.
The manufacturer's mark is affixed with a small iron and gilded on the upper flap.
