Object description :

"Bronze Of A Japanese Noh Actor "
Japanese bronze representing a Noh theater actor,  for the noh play Yuya
signed by the artist Kiyomine  accompanied by a handwritten sheet (a poem?) and a small wooden sign
  • Yuya (熊野) is the title of a famous Noh play, so the statue depicts the lead character, a noblewoman of the Heike clan
  • Karakane (唐銅) is bronze with a high content of copper mixed with tin and a little lead
  • The artist's name is Kiyomine (清峯)
  • The minimalism is quite striking and contrasts in a very appealing way with the extravagance of Noh costumes.
