Michel Vilalta (1871-1942) Seaside On The Corniche In Marseille

An energetic touch that perfectly reflects the movement of the sea and the offshore wind, the material and the color for this pretty oil on canvas by the Marseille artist Michel Vilalta.
The work is in good condition, only on the back two old restorations invisible on the painting side, it is offered in a beautiful Louis XIV style frame which measures 80 cm by 92 cm, and 60 cm by 73 cm for the canvas alone.
In the tradition of the great Marseille marine painters, it represents a seaside animated by a boat with fishermen on the Corniche near the Plage du Prophète.
It is signed lower right.

A student of the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Beaux Arts, he is especially known for his landscapes. He colors the creeks of Marseille in a sober way, he produces numerous views of seaside, quays, and urban landscapes of the south. He exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Français from 1927 to 1936: Bassin du Carénage in Marseille 1927, Valldemosa, Balearic Islands (1931).
