The openwork spatulas are formed from intertwined foliage scrolls extending to form the stem. A large plant motif joins the handle to the back of the spoons, which are made of silver gilt.
The finish is superb, with organic curves and counter-curves blended with more angular and rectilinear architectural elements. The fabulous pierced work brings lightness and preciousness to this set.
The spoons are in their superb original box, numbered G.G and gilded with petit fer.
Each spoon is hallmarked:
. Boar's head hallmark for solid silver
. Silversmith's hallmark: AD with a woodcock for Alphonse Debain.
Alphonse Debain is the heir to a family of silversmiths established since 1847. He had his hallmark engraved in 1883 and, in 1889, received a gold medal at the Universal Exhibition. An exceptional teapot by him is preserved at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris.
Very rare openwork spoon model by one of the great Art Nouveau silversmiths.
