The asymmetrical spatulas are formed from wide leafy scrolls from which flowering branches emerge.
Long acanthus leaves cover the stems.
The spoon and knife blade are silver-gilt.
The back of the spoon is adorned with a large acanthus leaf motif.
The knife blade is decorated with a superb, large engraving of leafy scrolls.
The set is in its original case, indicating that it was purchased directly from Cardeilhac, Rue de Rivoli.
Each piece is hallmarked:
. Minerva, 1st grade for 950/°° silver. Goldsmith's hallmark: EC under the crowned Legion of Honor and surmounting a crescent for Armand-Edouard Cardeilhac and Ernest Cardeilhac, respectively son and grandson of the founder of the house, Antoine-Vital Cardeilhac, who ran it from 1804 to 1851.
Cardeilhac in full on the knife.
Boar's head on the spoon.
The case and hallmark allow us to date this cutlery set to the period of Ernest Cardeilhac, who was established at 91 rue de Rivoli, between 1885 and 1904. The style of the cutlery indicates production from the late 19th century, before the emergence of Art Nouveau, although these highly regarded models were also produced later.
Magnificent cutlery of very high quality, heavy with a very fine decoration and superb engraving on the knife blade, by one of the greatest French goldsmiths.
