Superb and moving mourning portrait of a young boy, dating from the first third of the 19th century.
The portrait is oval, depicting the bust of a naked child in the clouds. He is very finely depicted, a slight smile appears on his face, and his gaze is frankly turned towards the viewer. His hairstyle is styled in the fashion of the early 19th century, with his hair slicked back at his temples.
The depiction of a subject, here a young boy, naked in the clouds is characteristic of the funerary portrait, the deceased having reached Heaven. He is depicted in all his beauty and fragility to remind the unfortunate parents of the memory of their beloved child.
The portrait is in a wooden frame painted black, the color of mourning, and rimmed with gilt metal.
A loop on the back allows it to be hung.
A superb, very moving portrait, created by a painter who brought out the gentleness of the subject through the great quality and mastery of his art.
8.1 x 7 cm with the frame
5.2 x 4.2 cm (visible) for the miniature only.
Good condition, very slight rubbing at the top of the right shoulder and a small discoloration at the bottom right, at the extreme periphery of the portrait.
