The body of the jar is made of glass with large ribs, characteristic of the taste during the reign of Louis XVIII.
It is probably a production of the Creusot factory, but I cannot be certain on this point.
The silver-rimmed rim houses a silver lid with an umbilicus. It is decorated with a water leaf frieze. This jar was probably intended to hold a toiletry or makeup product for an elegant lady.
The silver parts are hallmarked:
. Woman's head facing left: Parisian silver hallmark, 2nd grade, between 1819 and 1838 (lid).
. Mask: medium guarantee hallmark for the same period (lid).
. Later crab hallmark: small guarantee for silver for the Province (lid). Hare's head: small guarantee mark for Parisian silver between 1819 and 1838 (neck). Identify the silversmith's mark: JLV with an ivy leaf (?).
Very pretty pot with a beautiful silver mount, dating from the early 19th century and most likely from the reign of Louis XVIII.
