The original icon dates from the 13th century, it is part of the icon gallery of the church of Saint Clement of the Virgin at Peribleptos in North Macedonia. She has an inscription in Cyrillic above the stage, which I cannot decipher. Another inscription in smaller Cyrillic characters is visible at the bottom center, more difficult to see.It must be the artist’s signature. The gold background brings out the scene represented in a rather stylized way.
As you can see on the photos there are small gaps of scales, nothing serious but a small restoration would restore its original appearance. The painted part has cracks and the back is pricked with wormholes. The back appears to have been treated and varnished.
