Work that could be described as ethnographic. It represents a musician, more precisely a player of jejy voatavo which is a traditional Malagasy musical instrument.
The work is treated in a hyperrealistic way, the finesse of execution is quite remarkable.
Although most of the work is preserved, it is not in perfect condition (traces of moisture).

Émile RALAMBO was born in Antananarivo in 1879. Self-taught, he never had a painting teacher or attended a school of fine arts. He learns by observing nature and reproducing famous works. During his studies, he devoted all of his free time to drawing and painting, perfecting himself gradually.
His works depict landscapes of Madagascar, scenes of Malagasy life , as well as portraits of Malgaches of great finesse. The latter, made from photographs or real models, have a quasi-photographic dimension that gives them an ethnographic value. He is known for his meticulousness and meticulous approach, and some of his paintings can be classified as «hyper-realistic».
He participates in many exhibitions in Madagascar and abroad. In 1952, he won a gold medal in Antananarivo, then a medal of the city of Vichy in 1960. One of his works is kept in the Museum of Versailles, and another figure on the stamp of the Festival des Arts Nègres de Dakar in 1966.
In addition, he is decorated with the Gold Medal of the Fair of Antananarivo in 1947, the Academic Palms in 1950, the Merit of Madagascar, as well as the Medal of Honor of Work.
Recognized as one of the best watercolourists of his time, Émile RALAMBO died in Antananarivo in 1963.
