"Empire Period Clock Ceres, By The King, Clockmaker To The Emperor"
Important clock in very finely chiseled and gilded bronze from the Empire period, representing Ceres holding a sickle and a sheaf of wheat, by one of the greatest French clockmakers, Basile-Charles Le Roy (1765 - 1839). He was clockmaker to the Emperor, Madame Mère, the King of Westphalia and Princess Pauline among others. Member of one of the most illustrious families of clockmakers founded in the 18th century by Pierre Le Roy, his creations are among the jewels of the end of the Ancien Régime until the Restoration. Our clock is in its superb gilding, very well preserved. The movement is functional, but the striking hammer is missing. We also note chips on the enameled dial caused by the key over time. It reads "Le Roy horloger de S ", the missing letters ending the title of "His Majesty the Emperor". Dimensions: 32.5 X 43.5 X 14 cm
