"Portrait Of A Knight In Louis XIV Armor"
Interesting portrait from the Louis XIV period in its original carved, gilded wooden frame. Oil on canvas on its period stretcher; oval format. Knight in armor, presented as a bust, head turned to the left. An annotation on the back of the frame and two elements visible on the canvas tell us about the character. Our knight wears the Order of the Collar (or Supreme Order of the Most Holy Annunciation), order of chivalry of the Duchy of Savoy. The inscription on the collar confirms the origin of our man: FERT (Fortitudo Et Robur Taurineusis) or Turinese Strength and Robustness. Our knight under the orders of Victor Amadée II of Savoy distinguished himself in battles against the French in the Porte Neuve districts of Turin, but lost his life during the Battle of Marsaglia in October 1693. Beautiful period carved wooden frame, late 17th century.
