"Impressionist School Late 19th Century : "boats Near The Shore""
Impressionist school, late 19th century : "Boats near the shore", ink and brush drawing 11 X 24.5 cm, mounted by a silver beveled mat in a black lacquered rod 34 X 44 cm. Numerous light foxing. An annotation from the former owner on the back: "Marie-José S. 11 1993 Purchased in Paris Louvre des Antiquaires". Bordering on abstraction or certain Far Eastern artists, this drawing is all about suggestion, letting us guess at sailboats near the coast during low tide which reveals bouchots... Unfortunately unsigned, it is reminiscent of Whistler's aide-mémoire studies which he later used to create his etchings.
