Beautiful travel icon representing the Virgin of Protection, called Mary "Joy of All the Afflicted". Made of blue and white enameled bronze, this work comes from Russia (Old Believer school) and dates from the 18th century -- around 1750/1780.
In this composition, the crowned Virgin, wearing her attributes as queen of the universe, stands in the middle of a crowd of people -- rich and poor -- imploring her to bring them support and protection.
Very good general overall condition. Some chips in the enamel and wear of time.
