"Napoleon III Period Glove Box Boulle Tahan Marquetry 19th Century"
Napoleon III period glove box in Boulle marquetry, first part of chiseled brass scrolls, standing out against a blackened wooden background. The box is signed on the lock by Jean-Pierre Tahan (1813-1892), manufacturer at 34 rue de la Paix in Paris (address used by the cabinetmaker between 1849 and 1866, before he moved to 11 boulevard des Italiens). In 1855, he held the title of supplier to the emperor. The interior is entirely veneered with exotic rosewood.
