"Fireplace Plaque With The Coat Of Arms Of Jean-baptiste Berthier De Bizy (77x88 Cm)"
Fireplace plate dating from the first half of the 18th century, with the arms of Jean-Baptiste Berthier de Bizy, 1702-1771, knight, Lord of Fangis (Fougis), of Bizy and other places in Nivernais, married in 1730 to Louise Garnault, daughter of a merchant provost of the consular jurisdiction of Nevers or of his cousin, Edouard Berthier, Lord of Bizy in part. Family belonging to the nobility of Nivernais since Pierre Berthier ennobled by Louis XI in 1479. Family of metallurgists and blacksmiths for 400 years, from 1450 to 1850, a furnace was built near the castle from 1440 and two forges in the vicinity from the end of the 15th century in Baverolles and Dinons. Following a fire, the castle was built on the site of the old fortress by Edouard de Berthier in 1712 and was probably completed by Jean-Baptiste, his cousin, who bought all his possessions in 1741. The shield presented in a cartouche, flanked by crosiers and palms, is topped with a marquis' crown. Its generously molded semicircular pediment rests on volutes adorned with offcuts and acanthus leaves.
