Rare perfume cellar
Gilt bronze and enameled bronze wires
Paris, circa 1860 - 1880
Napoleon III period
H. 15 x 8 x 8 cm
Very rare Napoleon III-period perfume cellar made entirely of gilded bronze wire. The lower part rests on a tripod base supporting a beehive decorated with partially enameled bees. The beehive opens to reveal a perfume bottle.
This is a very rare example of Parisian production, and more specifically of the objets de vertu sold by the perfumers located in the galleries of the Palais Royal in Paris.
A very similar perfume cellar is preserved in the Turin Museum and reproduced in the catalog.
Condition report:
The bees in particular are missing, but the overall condition is very good, with thick, fresh yellow gilding.
