Large 18th Century Snuff Box In Horn Painted With Flowers, Silver Mounting.

Rare horn snuffbox painted with flowers with a solid silver mount.

The snuffbox has a scalloped shape, still very Louis XV in style; the base and mount are made of solid silver.

The lid, base, and body of the snuffbox are made of horn. The body and lid are very finely painted with rich and colorful bouquets of flowers, in the Dutch manner.
Five bouquets are painted, all very detailed with a wide variety of flowers. The rich polychromy contrasts beautifully with the gray/taupe background.

The mount is hallmarked:
. Hallmark is illegible, probably a charge for minor Parisian silver works between 1774 and 1780.

Date letter N for the year 1776-1777.

Silversmith's mark is illegible. Dog's Head: Parisian Discharge Mark between 1774 and 1780
