"French School, Academic Nude, Young Shepherd With A Crook, Charcoal On Paper, 19th Century"
Academic nude from the end of the 19th century representing a young naked boy, possibly a young shepherd leaning on his crook. The figure, puny and melancholic, evokes that of Saint John the Baptist as a child in a long figurative tradition whose most striking representations were undoubtedly those of Caravaggio and his followers. There are some discreet stains and folds documented as best as possible by the photographs. The frame is modern. Technique: charcoal on paper. Overall dimensions: 470 x 530 mm. Dimensions on view: 375 x 310 mm.
