Exceptional set of 5 engraved and green-lined crystal Rhine wine glasses, Lobmeyr, Vienna. Extract from glass service number 54, made between 1852 and 1854 by Josef Lobmeyr and presented in London in 1862 for the Universal Exhibition. Round foot, slanted leg, round ring. The foot and the chalice are engraved with a Renaissance-style decoration which borrows from examples of 18th-century Bohemian work. Superb decoration of foliage and birds with outstretched wings. Dimensions: Height: 12.9 cm / Diameter at the base: 7 cm / Diameter at the top: 6.5 cm. Perfect condition. A very rare model, found in the inventory of the Princes of Liechtenstein in January 1880 (extract from the book J. and L. Lobmeyr, between Tradition and Innovation, Mak Studies, 2006).
