Venus de Medici, France, circa 1840.
Height 31.5 cm, width 9.5 cm, depth 8 cm
Elegant bronze sculpture of the Venus de Medici, modeled on the ancient statue of the Venus Pudica type - the modest Venus.
The oldest known depiction of the Venus de Medici is in the Uffizi Gallery in Florence.
The sculpture is a French work from the first half of the 19th century. Identical pieces come from the art foundry of F. Barbedienne, which produced such Hellenistic sculptures based on models from antiquity from 1840 onwards.
The bronze figure has a uniform, beautiful brown burnishing; there are two minimal scratches on the leg and on the back of the Venus (see photos).
Very good condition.
